Fireplace Enlargement and Woodburner Installation in Burnham-on-Sea
Fireplace Enlargement and Woodburner Installation in Burnham-on-Sea
We are often asked to replace an existing electric or gas fire with a woodburner, which normally involves enlarging the fireplace recess to allow good airflow around the stove. Generally the woodburner will require a new hearth that should extend at least 225mm in front of the woodburner and be at least 12mm thick. We generally recommend and use 25mm Brazilian black slate as provides a timeless look and can be cut to fit at the customers property.
We installed a new lintel before excavating the rubble and installing metal beading to plaste up to around the edge of the recess. We rendered the inside of the recess with sand and cement to protect against the heat of the woodburner.
We always include a flexible chimney liner with every woodburner installation in Burnham-on-Sea
We always install a flexible liner, chimney cowl and registration plate to seal off the chimney from dust and soot. As HETAS certified installers we thoroughly test the installation and provide a HETAS certificate, essential when selling a property or for buildings insurance.
Our customer wanted a multi-fuel stove and selected the Ecosy Snug 5kw woodburner, which is a great value woodburner from a leading UK company. We have installed many Ecosy Snug stoves as you will see in our portfolio.
Tip: Multi-fuel stoves come with a grate and ash pan, making cleaning easier than a wood only stove.
Another option available would be to install a inset or cassette woodburner into the wall and theoretically float the woodburner at a chosen height above the floor for a modern look.
