Open Up Chimney Fireplace and Install a Woodburner in Tiverton
We were asked to open up a fireplace to original size and install a SIA Approved, Defra woodburner in Tiverton.
The chimney breast was small and the jams (brick columns each side of stove) have to be a minium of 200mm, so we used a stove adaptor to bring the stove into the room so not to look to tight in the recess. You can sweep easily through the stove thanks to the custom adaptor.
We removed the rubble and tidied up the bricks inside and then bonded and plastered around the recess exterior.
We added a 30mm thick brazilian slate hearth, which was cut to size on the clients premises and just needs an oil to finish.
We finished the look with a custom sized oak mantel, again cut to size. It was positioned to adhere to distance to combustibles recommended by woodburner manufacture.
