We always take time and care to prepare the room before work begins by covering furniture, floors and hallway in plastic in order protect your property against dirt and reduce dust while we work. The carpet was to be replaced and the customer wanted limit the depth of hearth in the room. The minimum is 225mm hearth depth, but I use 300mm due to width of stove door when open.
Fireplace Renovation in Halse, Taunton
We initially removed all the old tiles around the recess and hearth, then replaced the plasterboard with fireboard at rear of stove, before cutting a Brazillian slate hearth to size and bedding on mortar base. The standard size slate hearth is 1200mm x 900mm, but larger sizes can be suppplied.

Rebuilding the Fireplace
The next step is adding the metal beading around the edge of the fireplace recess, before rendering the inside of the recess with sand and cement and finally bonding and plaster the exterior face of the chimney breast.
