Fireplace Renovation and Woodburner Installation in Chard

This project involved complete fireplace renovation by removing an open fire with stone surrond and rebuilding with a open recess for a wood burner.

Stove fire surround before removal

We always begin by preparing the room by covering in plastic dust sheets before removing and disposing of all rubble and waste from a customers property. We then carefully removed the existing stone surround.

After removal of stone surround, requires rebuild to strengthen

We suspected the construction of the current fireplace wasn’t up to standard and after removing the stone surround this was evident and required a full rebuild. We had to take care to prop up the existing clay chimney liners.

Rebuilt fireplace in blockwork ready for rendering

We initially added a new lintel to support the chimney breast before removing the legs and back of the fireplace and completly rebuilt the recess in block work in order to get a square opening.

Completed Fireplace Renovation in Chard

The following steps involved rendering the internal fireplace recess with sand and cement whilst bonding and plastering the external chimney breast to finish. We supplied and install both an oak mantel and a 1500 x 900mm slate hearth cut to fit and bedded on cement.

We installed a Arada Solution 5 Defra approved, 5kw multi-fuel wood burner to , mpliment the large recess. We used a t-piece off the back to bring the wood burner into the room more, so it doesn’t look lost in the recess and will radiate more heat into the room.

Thank you to our builder ‘Brendon’ from Marley Building Services who completed the building work.
